Wedding Photographer at Waterton Park Hotel
Waterton Park Hotel has one of the most recognisable wedding settings in Yorkshire. Walton Hall on its own island, the lake around it, the bridge, the grounds, it all gives your day a setting that feels a bit special before anything has even happened.
I know Waterton Park well, which means I know how to make the most of the lake and bridge without making every photo feel like “stand here and look at the water”. There’s loads of variety here, from quiet portraits by the lakeside to natural guest photos as everyone moves between the hotel, bridge and Hall.
My photography is all about keeping the day moving and letting the real moments happen. The nerves before the ceremony, the proud looks, the little laughs, the confetti, the speeches and the “right, who let them on the dance floor?” moments later on.
We’ll use the setting properly, but I won’t drag you away from your wedding for ages. A few relaxed portraits, a bit of guidance when needed, then back to the people who are there to celebrate with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Waterton Park Hotel has a really lovely flow to it, especially with Walton Hall on the island, the lake, the bridge and the grounds all working together. It gives you loads of variety without needing to leave the venue or disappear for too long.
Here are a few common questions couples ask me about wedding photography at Waterton Park Hotel.
How do you use the lake and bridge without making every photo look the same?
The lake and bridge are big features at Waterton Park, but I’ll never rely on one obvious shot. I’ll use them when the light is right, mix in relaxed portraits around the grounds, and capture the natural moments happening with your guests so the gallery has proper variety.
Is Walton Hall good for getting-ready photos?
Yes, Walton Hall can work beautifully for morning preparations, especially because it has character and keeps you close to the main part of the day. I’ll capture the nerves, the little details, the daft moments and everything building up before the ceremony.
Can we have photos by the water safely and without fuss?
Definitely. I know the best ways to use the lakeside areas without making anything feel awkward or risky. You do not need to be balancing on the edge of anything for a good photo. Nice light, a good backdrop and you two being yourselves is more than enough.
What if the weather changes halfway through the day?
Waterton Park is one of those venues where we can adapt quickly. If it’s dry, we’ll use the lake, bridge and grounds. If it turns, there are indoor and sheltered options, and if the weather breaks for five minutes, we can nip out and make the most of it.
Is Waterton Park good for relaxed guest photos?
Yes, really good. Because guests naturally move between the hotel, Walton Hall, the bridge and the outdoor areas, there are lots of chances to capture people chatting, laughing, hugging and enjoying the day without them feeling like they’re being photographed all the time.

Your Waterton Park Hotel Wedding Photographer
I’m Matt, a Yorkshire wedding photographer with over 15 years’ experience photographing weddings across Yorkshire, Cheshire and beyond. Waterton Park Hotel is one of those venues I’ve been back to many times, and it’s easy to see why couples love it. Walton Hall on the island, the lake, the bridge, the grounds, it all gives the day a proper sense of place.
The lovely thing about Waterton Park is the variety. You can have quiet moments by the water, big group photos with the venue behind you, guests wandering over the bridge, drinks outside and all the usual wedding-day madness happening in between. It’s a great setting, but it still needs to feel like your day, not a venue brochure.
That’s where I come in. I’ll guide you when needed, keep things moving when they need moving, and spend the rest of the day looking for the real moments. The proud parents, the daft laughs, the emotional bits, the reactions during speeches and the dance floor behaviour that may or may not be remembered clearly the next morning.
My approach is relaxed, natural and people-focused. I’m not here to make you pose for hours or disappear around the lake until your guests forget what you look like. We’ll make the most of Waterton Park, then get you back to the celebration.
I’ve won plenty of awards over the years, which is lovely, but the best bit is that they’ve been voted for by couples. That tells me I’m doing the job properly: making people feel comfortable on the day and giving them photos they actually love afterwards.
So, if you’re getting married at Waterton Park Hotel and want a photographer who knows the venue, keeps things easy and captures the day properly, I’d love to hear from you.
