Wedding Photographer at Peckforton Castle
There aren’t many wedding venues that make guests stop and stare before they’ve even got through the door, but Peckforton Castle does exactly that. It’s dramatic, atmospheric and full of character, which makes it an incredible setting for wedding photos, as long as the day still feels like yours and not a castle-themed photoshoot.
I’ve been photographing weddings at Peckforton Castle for over ten years, so I know how to use the venue properly. The big backdrops, the quieter corners, the darker rooms, the best spots outside and the places that work when the weather decides to be a pain.
The castle gives us the drama, but the real story is still the people. The nervous walk down the aisle, the reactions, the hugs, the speeches, the laughter and the dance floor chaos later on. That’s the stuff I’m really watching for.
We’ll get some brilliant portraits around the castle, of course, but I’ll keep it relaxed, quick and easy. No awkward posing, no wandering around for hours, and no missing half your drinks reception.

Frequently Asked Questions
Peckforton Castle is not your average wedding venue, which is exactly why the photography needs to feel natural rather than overdone. The castle already brings the drama, so my job is to capture the atmosphere, the people and the real moments without making the day feel like a production.
Here are a few common questions couples ask me about wedding photography at Peckforton Castle.
How do you stop Peckforton Castle wedding photos looking too staged?
That’s the trick with a venue like Peckforton Castle. It’s big, dramatic and impressive, so it would be easy to overdo it. I’ll use the castle properly, of course, but I’ll keep the portraits relaxed and natural so the photos still feel like you, not a poster for medieval banqueting.
Can we get those big castle backdrop photos without spending ages away from everyone?
Absolutely. I know the venue well, so we can get the key Peckforton Castle portraits quickly and without wandering around for hours. You’ll still get those brilliant castle shots, but you’ll also get back to your guests before they start wondering if you’ve gone missing.
Is Peckforton Castle good for winter weddings?
Yes, it works really well for winter weddings. The castle has plenty of atmosphere indoors, so even when the light disappears earlier or the weather is not playing nicely, there are still loads of ways to create lovely, natural wedding photographs.
Can you photograph the darker indoor areas of the castle?
Yes. Castles are not exactly known for being bright white boxes, so you need to know what you’re doing with light. I’m used to working in darker rooms, candlelit spaces and moodier settings, so the atmosphere of Peckforton Castle becomes part of the photos rather than a problem.
What makes Peckforton Castle different from other wedding venues?
It has proper wow factor. The towers, the stonework, the views, the rooms and the whole arrival experience make it feel completely different from a standard hotel wedding. But the best photos are still the real moments: the nerves, the laughter, the hugs, the speeches and the dance floor later on.

Your Peckforton Castle Wedding Photographer
I’m Matt, a Yorkshire wedding photographer with over 15 years’ experience, and Peckforton Castle is one of those venues I know inside out. I’ve photographed weddings here for over ten years, including weddings for people who work at the venue, which is always a lovely compliment. When people who see weddings week in, week out trust you with their own, that means a lot.
Peckforton Castle has the drama, the towers, the stonework and the proper “wow, we’re getting married in a castle” feeling. But as brilliant as the venue looks, the photos still need to be about you. The nervous smiles, the hugs, the laughter, the speeches, the guests getting louder as the night goes on. That’s the stuff you’ll come back to years later.
My style is natural, relaxed and full of real moments. I’ll make the most of the castle, of course, but I won’t turn your wedding into a long, awkward photoshoot. We’ll get the portraits, we’ll use the venue properly, and then I’ll get you back to the people you invited to celebrate with you.
If you’re not a fan of having your photo taken, you’re in very good company. Most couples tell me the same thing. I’ll keep it simple, fun and calm, so nothing feels stiff, staged or weird. Unless weird is your thing, in which case, we can discuss it.
I’ve been lucky enough to win plenty of awards over the years, including awards voted for by real couples. That matters to me because it means people enjoyed the experience, not just the final gallery.
So, if you’re planning your wedding at Peckforton Castle and want a photographer who knows the venue, keeps things relaxed and captures the day as it really felt, I’d love to hear from you.
