Wedding Photographer at Woodlands Hotel
Woodlands Hotel is a great choice if you want a Leeds wedding venue that feels stylish but not too formal. It’s close to the city, but once you’re there, with the gardens, Orangery and country house feel, it has that tucked-away atmosphere that works really well for relaxed wedding photography.
One of the best things about Woodlands is how easy it is to move around. We can use the gardens for portraits, the Orangery if the weather’s being typically Yorkshire, and the hotel spaces for all the real moments happening naturally through the day.
I’ll keep the photography fitted around the wedding, not the other way round. A few family photos, some relaxed portraits, plenty of candid moments and then you’re back to the drinks, canapés and people asking if they can have “just one quick photo”.
The whole aim is to make it feel easy. No awkward posing, no long disappearing act, no turning your wedding into a photoshoot. Just natural, relaxed images that feel like you and the people you had around you.

Reviews from Woodlands Hotel Couples
Frequently Asked Questions
Woodlands Hotel is brilliant for couples who want a stylish Leeds wedding venue without everything feeling too formal. The gardens, Orangery, hotel spaces and close-together layout make it easy to keep the photography relaxed and part of the day.
Here are a few common questions couples ask me about wedding photography at Woodlands Hotel.
Is Woodlands Hotel good for couples who do not want formal wedding photos?
Yes, very. Woodlands has a relaxed feel, so it suits natural photography really well. We can still do a few family photos and portraits, but the venue works best when the photos feel easy, informal and full of real moments.
How does the Orangery help with wedding photos?
The Orangery gives us a bright, useful space that works well for natural indoor photographs. It’s especially handy if the weather changes or if we want clean, relaxed images without needing to move everyone around too much.
Can we use the gardens without making the day feel interrupted?
Yes. That’s one of the best things about Woodlands. The gardens are close to the main wedding spaces, so we can step out for a few portraits, use the greenery and get you back to your guests quickly. No grand expedition required.
What makes Woodlands different from a larger hotel wedding venue?
Woodlands feels more tucked-away and personal. It has the style and service of a hotel, but with more of a boutique country house feel. From a photography point of view, that usually means the day feels calmer, more intimate and easier to capture naturally.
Do you recommend golden hour photos at Woodlands?
If the light is good, yes. The gardens can look lovely later in the day, and it only takes a few minutes to get some relaxed evening portraits. No fuss, no dramatic posing, just a quick breather together while the light is doing something nice.

Your Woodlands Hotel Wedding Photographer
I’m Matt, a Yorkshire wedding photographer with over 15 years’ experience, and Woodlands Hotel is a brilliant Leeds venue for the way I like to photograph weddings. It’s stylish without feeling too formal, tucked away without being miles from anywhere, and everything is close enough that the photography can fit naturally into the day.
That makes a big difference. At Woodlands, we can step into the gardens for a few portraits, use the Orangery if the weather is being annoying, grab the family photos without turning it into a military operation, and then get you back to the drinks, canapés and people asking if they can have “just one quick photo”.
My style is relaxed, natural and focused on real moments. I’ll capture the nerves, the hugs, the laughter, the speeches, the reactions and the dance floor chaos, without making the whole day revolve around the camera. The best wedding photographs usually happen when people are enjoying themselves, not when they’re being told to tilt their chin three degrees to the left.
If you’re not comfortable in front of the camera, don’t worry. Most couples say the same. I’ll give you enough direction so you don’t feel abandoned, but not so much that it feels awkward. Simple, easy, fun. That’s the plan.
I’ve been lucky enough to win plenty of awards over the years, including awards voted for by couples. That means a lot because it says people liked the photographs and enjoyed the experience of having me there, which matters just as much.
So, if you’re planning your wedding at Woodlands Hotel and want a photographer who knows how to keep things relaxed, natural and properly enjoyable, I’d love to hear from you.
